In 2019 I will be visiting my local park several times a month to create a portfolio of landscape images. In a society that is infatuated with a sense of wanderlust and desire to be anywhere but where they are I want to find the beauty in my own backyard. What I am not saying is that wanderlust and a desire to see the world are a bad thing, or that I do not posses those traits, but one of my main goals with this project is to no longer use the inability to pack up and travel as an excuse to not create something meaningful. A full time teaching job, a wife and two little boys, travel and the ability to just go on a whim are limited. For far to long I feel like I have used this as an excuse as to why I have not been creating photos just for me.
I know that I am happiest when I am making something. I get this happiness from several outlets, cooking good food, projects around the house, but creating art (mainly photography) has always been my major source of feeding my internal desire to create things. Since closing up Dustin Allison Photography as a wedding and portrait business, there hasn’t been much to fill that hole. I have enjoyed photographing the daily life of my boys as they grow, creating family memories, but now I want to return to Landscape photography. I have always had a love with photographing the outdoors, going back to my high school and college photography classes, the photographing the outdoors always made me the happiest.
My only goal for this seemingly simple, yet daunting project, is to be able to say I did the work. I want to make images at my local park. I hope I create something good. I hope to learn more about being a photographer. I hope to learn more about the craft of photography. I hope to create images that match my vision. I want to be able to say I did the work.
Last weekend Ann and I went down to shoot some Indianapolis Engagement Photos with Kirby & Mark. We met up at the Indianapolis Art Center in Broad Ripple and hopped on the Monon Trail. Kind of embarrassed to say that I have never been on the Monon and I have lived here my entire life. It was a cool place. We found lots of wooded trails that ran along side the trail that made for some nice photos, as well as the trail itself! After shooting on the Monon for awhile, we headed into Broad Ripple, and Mark & Kirby changed into their respective college and colts gear for some photos. Our last stop was Kilroy’s for a photo outside and some delicious stuffed bread sticks on the inside. Ann and I are really looking forward to their September wedding!

My little niece came over last night for some photos, she is about 4mo old now. We all had a blast watching the many faces of Savannah. Here are a few of my favorites, I am a fan of the simple white on white just letting all her personality shine! As always, more on my Facebook Fan Page!
