Katie & Corey: Indianapolis Maternity Photographer

I recently shot my very first maternity session! I have been thinking about expanding my photographic offerings recently and about the same time Katie, who I had in an Indy Photo Coach class, contacting me about maternity photos, so I took it as a sign that I needed to jump on this opportunity. What a blast this session was! When Ann and I left we both said that we had a great time shooting with Katie and Corey! We spent Saturday morning wandering around the Indianapolis Art Center shooting classic images of the two of them as well as just Katie. Maternity photography varies so wildly in styles (just like most types of photography), it just happened that both Katie and I had the same vision for how the session would go. Got home late last night from Playa Del Carmen Mexico where I attended/photographed my little sisters wedding. Matt: 2012 Plainfield Senior Pictures

Friday afternoon I had the pleasure of meeting up with Matt and his mom at Plainfield High School to shoot some senior portraits for them. We started off shooting around the track and football fields and ended up shooting a few in the locker rooms too. I got the opportunity to try out some flash composites, and I am pretty happy with the way they turned out! After we were done shooting at the high school we headed down the road to Friendship gardens to shoot a few more portraits there. I love shooting portraits outdoors because nothing is ever the same twice. There were a large group of people at the park taking prom photos, so we had to improvise and shoot at some spots that I had never really considered before, and I am really glad we did. some of my favorite images are in these new spots. Gabby: Avon 2012 Senior Pictures

My wife and I met up with Gabby on Friday morning (Avon didn’t have school, so I was not skipping my day job and Gabby was not skipping class) at Avon Gardens to shoot some senior photos. I had never been to this location before and it blew me away, what a great place for a portrait session, or wedding. There was not a cloud in the sky Friday morning, but don’t let that fool you, it was chilly. Gabby was a trooper though, doing anything we asked in the name of great portraits! Images from Spring Break 2012

Last week I was on Spring Break from my teaching job at Avon High School, so I thought that would be a good time to play around with my camera a little and just shoot for myself some. I really didn’t come up with anything exciting, but I figured I would share what I did come up with. To make my shooting a little more fun I rented a 45mm tilt-shift lens from Camera Lens Rentals. For all my photography friends that are reading this…they are great to rent from. A tilt shift lens allows you to shift the plain of focus either vertically or horizontally depending on how you move the lens around. These lens’ give a look that can not be achieved in any other way. They are also manual focus, so there was a pretty steep learning curve in trying to get the images that I wanted in focus. I really enjoyed shooting with the lens and will likely rent it again for a wedding. There are several wedding photographers that I admire that use this lens, and I hope to be able to incorporate it into my work someday. Anyway, here are a few images. I took my lovely wife Ann out to McCloud Nature park one evening to hike around and shoot some images. I made her model for me a few times to see what I could come up with. I have also added a few landscape images, I enjoy shooting landscape stuff, I just don’t normally get the chance to.

Caitlin: 2012 Brownsburg Senior Portraits

I met up with Caitlin from Brownsburg High School the other day to shoot some senior portraits. We stated off at Friendship Gardens in Plainfield and used all their well landscaped grounds to set the location for some great senior pictures. We also shot a few images in the alleyways behind the old buildings in old towne Plainfield for a different look. I had a blast shooting Caitlin’s senior portraits. Indy Photo Coach Zoo Class Images

The past two Saturday mornings I had the pleasure of sitting in on the new Indy Photo Coach class at the Indianapolis Zoo. I am one of Indy Photo Coach’s regular instructors, but just not for the zoo class. The class was taught by Jackie Curts, a zoo keeper and photographer. I had a great time trying to get the best images possible and helping others get the images they were after too. I like to shoot things like this when I have some free time. It keeps my skills sharp and helps remind me why I love photography. Nothing feels better than checking out the screen on the back of your camera and seeing that you nailed the image you were after, no matter what the subject.

New Site!

My new website is finally coming along nicely, I think I have it close to where I like it, but there are still lots of tweaks going on behind the scenes. Amanda & Joe: Married! Indiana Wedding Photography

On the last weekend of 2011 Ann and I had the pleasure to photograph Joe and Amanda’s wedding in Laporte Indiana. They held both the wedding and reception at a great venue, The Alure. I was definitely one of my favorite venues that I have shot at, I just wish it was closer so I could get the chance to shoot there again! Amanda and Joe planned a great wedding with lots of personal touches to make their wedding day special. They were so natural and relaxed in front of the camera, and that made out job easy! The Allure had plenty of great spaces for us to use to create some really special images. I hop you guys cherish your wedding images for years to come!
